The State of Washington has 10 to 15 Expanding
Your Horizons (EYH) Conferences each year. These events
are designed to nurture girls' interest in science and math courses
and to encourage them to consider science and math based career
options such as engineering, computer science and physical science.
The first EYH Conference was sponsored by the Math/Science Network
at Mills College in 1976. Since inception, EYH has benefited thousands
of girls and young women in more than 22 states across the nation.
More information about the Expanding
Your Horizons Network and
Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ conferences
can be found at their Web site.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public
Instruction (OSPI), the Washington Expanding Your Horizons Gateway
Project has been created. Coordinators of Washington’s
EYH conferences benefit from the following services and resources:
Registration Database
A conference registration database is now available for all conferences
to use. Coordinators for each conference may use the database to view
and manage student registration for their event. Conference coordinators
who want to use the database should contact
to arrange
for account information. Those interested in seeing the database,
should use this link to preview
the database.
Assessment and Evaluation
EYH conferences use a variety of tools to evaluate
their conferences. Most conferences have a student survey and a
presenter survey. Some conferences also conduct volunteer surveys.
The following is a sample of conference
evaluation tools that EYH
conferences in Washington have used. These are available
to use or modify by clicking on the links to the files.
Conference Materials
This Web site contains links to materials and information to help conference coordinators plan and manage EYH conferences. Coordinators can also place their conference brochure on this site for easy download by interested parties.
